The South Asia Microform Project
The South Asia Microform Project is a Major Microfilm Project of American Universities
that shall acquire and maintain, for the common use of subscribing institutions, a readily
accessible collection of materials in microform related to the study of South Asia. The
collection will be formed and maintained as a cooperative enterprise through library
subscriptions which will entitle the subscribing libraries to borrow material in
microform copy from the pool for their use locally. Materials will be collected both
through the filming efforts of the project and through the purchase of positive copies
of materials filmed by other groups, institutions and companies.

Microfilming of Indian Publications Project (MIPP)
Microfilming of Indian Publications Project (MIPP) is a related project aimed at
preserving and making accessible all 55,992 books listed in The National Bibliography
of Indian Literature: 1901-1953 (NBIL) together with the pre-1954 titles in the
NBIL supplement. These are books in the twenty-two major languages of South Asia
selected by a group of Indian scholars for their central importance to humanistic
understanding of India.
The National Bibliography of Indian Literature: 1901 - 1953 (NBIL); 4 v. (New Delhi: Sahitya
Akademi, 1962 - 1974), is a selective bibliography. It was compiled by a group of
distinguished language specialists under the editorship of B. S. Kesavan, the then Director
of the National Library. In addition to the original four volumes of the bibliography,
the project was extended to include a fifth volume (New Delhi: Sahitya Akademi, 1990),
ed. by Kartik Chandra Dutt. Nearly 56,000 titles with imprints prior to 1954 in twenty-two
Indian languages are listed in the bibliography.
